Hello,
I am moving to Atlanta in three months to attend Emory School of Nursing. I am pursuing my second degree so I wanted to live off campus. Can anyone please give me some good suggestions on places to live(in or around Atlanta) that would have reasonable rent and be place to live?

Tough question to answer...how much do you want to spend? Unfortunately the local market determines what is "reasonable rent." I also found last year that the listed price is actually the price for that special or that day; rental prices change for some apt's every day based on area availability...full exploitation of supply/demand.
I live about just a few miles from the Nell Woodruff bldg (where the Emory Dept. of Nursing is located). There are so many choices in the close Emory area, it can be just overwhelming.
I chose Post Properties; they have around five complexes in the immediate Emory area (approx. 7 miles or less). If you tell them you are going to attend Emory, tell them you are a graduate student; some of the agencies won't rent to undergrads.
We can split the referral bonus. :welcome:
What about commuting? Are there areas that are okay for a decent commute? I was looking on a map and saw a place called ‘COLLEGE PARK’. Rent seems reasonable.

there are tons of apartments around the area. i don't remember the names right off but there are about four complexes right across the street. also, check apartmentguide (dot) com and apartmentratings (dot) com to get some more info. i think one of the properties is called lincoln something and it's owned by archstone.
college park is far from emory. you would want to look in brookhaven, emory, midtown, city of decatur.

Has anybody that lived in that area worried about their safety? This will be my first time in a really big city (my city is about 200,000) so it is hard for me to know what to expect.
you would need to be cautious in any part of the atlanta metro area because crime isn't limited to the urban areas. the apartments and areas right around the college are ok but again, you would need to be proactive regarding safety. if you plan on living alone, i would get a second floor or third floor apartment.

A friend of mine told me that some people commute from Conyers. I suppose I could look into that area.
Thanks
people commute from everywhere to come into the city to work or go to school. however, conyers is far and it will be in line with the morning traffic. i would strongly suggest staying near by since you are new to the city. the furthest i would live is downtown, midtown, decatur or tucker.

What she said...there are many creative ways to say that Atlanta traffic is maddening, and it seems to take a long time to let up in the evening.
What I've noticed is that folks seem to have to check their traffic manual when the light turns green as if it were a big surprise that green comes after red. But once they get going, they like to move. I feel that part of the issue is that Atlanta is a melting pot of many people like myself who brought their regional driving habits to Atlanta, and we're mixing it up!
I strongly suggest getting a GPS if you don't have one; the $200-$350 bucks will be well worth it. Buy it a few weeks before you move to Atlanta so you get the hang of it before tackling a populated city with about a hundred streets that have some variation of "Peach" in their name.
Bottom line; I firmly believe commuting is not the best decision for a transplant who is moving here to attend school; I commuted 70 miles at my last job up north, but specifically chose a place less than three miles from work and school when I moved to Atlanta...there are nice places to live in the immediate Emory area.
I thought rent was very high in that area???? I figured that maybe there were apartments that were great deals that only the locals knew about. I am coming to Atlanta at the end of May and hope to strike it lucky with a place to live. I am not sure how I feel about the Marta. It seems like that would help cut commuting time. :uhoh21:
