Moving to Arizona

Published

Hello, all!

I am an ER RN turning possible Hospice RN. I currently live in California and while I make enough money to support myself, I do not think I can live in California and adopt children (as is my wish). So, I started looking around for more affordable cities and Phoenix/Scottsdale keeps popping up. I grew up in Phoenix and I like the city and think it would be a good place to move back to. My questions:

1) How much does an ER RN make in Phoenix?

2) What is the average pay for Hospice RNs in PHoenix?

3) Is there a lot of jobs available or is there a surplus of RNs?

4) Do you like living in Phoenix? Raising kids there?

Thanks!

Hello!

I can't help much with the salary questions, there are a couple of other threads with people asking that might have more info, but a new grad can reasonably expect to start at about $26/hr plus shift diff. I expect it to be higher for experienced nurses.

In my opinion, there is a surplus of NEW grads in the area, but I've seen a ton of postings where experience is REQUIRED not just "preferred." I think you would be able to find a position in either of your desired areas within a reasonable amount of time.

I looovve living in the Phoenix area. I was so excited when I was able to move back. I don't have any kids, but I grew up here and I think I turned out okay ;) I also knew it was where I wanted to raise my future children. There's always tons of things to do, events, family oriented fun, community based activities. But it's like living in any city, you have the good parts of town and the bad parts of town. Just be smart, research the schools near where you want to live, drive in the area during both the day and the evening, etc.

Good luck with your research!

I agree ^^^^with all of the perks mentioned above about living here! I came from Cali as well (Loma Linda area). Born and raised there, and I have 3 kids under the age of 3. I am not yet a nurse. But living in AZ is just all around better out here for my family (education, jobs, lower crime rates, cost of living, ability to build our home at a cheaper rate, family oriented activities, etc) We absolutely love it here. I have no doubt in my mind that this is a great place for you to want to adopt and raise your children. We plan to adopt in the near future as well :-) I have seen on other threads as well that the starting pay for a new grad is around $26 an hour, and normally goes up about a $1 for each year of experience. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you!
