Mount Sinai, New Grads

Published

I have a question for any new grads applying for Mount Sinai. What are you supposed to put in the employment history section? I've been told to essentially just put my resume into the profile (ie, put clinical rotations in employment history) but it seems somewhat disingenuous and it doesn't work all that well since the 'employer' isn't really your preceptor, and really, it's not employment.

On the other hand, it wouldn't seem to me unusual for a new graduate to not have outside employment history (especially for those who went straight through with schooling), so it seems odd that they would require an employment history for consideration for a first job in nursing.

Thoughts?

Never put clinical rotations as employment. I learned that the hard way during an interview. If you've done any paid internships or anything that can relate to nursing in some sort of way then put those. The employment section on apps always ruin me because I never worked throughout highschool and went straight to college and got my ADN. Never worked during college either (I have super supportive parents lol).

Thanks for replying. It's frustrating that only paid things count since I've done valuable unpaid internships and volunteer experiences and it seems dumb to be unable to mention those. Do you just not apply places that asks for/requires employment history then?

I think it's a little weird that they wouldn't have a spot on the application for volunteer experience since most resumes include that. I'm not a new grad but when I do I won't have anything to put on it except for maybe an externship I do because I'm not working and went straight through school, sigh.
