In Missouri CNM's do not deliver babies, they work as WHNP. This is the law here in Missouri. If the CNM's would give up their need to do home deliveries, their scope of practice would change. It seems that home deliveries is a big thing for the CNM's here. I wish they would stick to the safe hospital, and this way RN's who want to be CNM's could, and have a full scope of practice. A MD told me this, and I sure do believe her.

It is not true that in MO there are no midwives doing deliveries--I do deliveries here and the midwives that I work with have been here for four years doing deliveries. I also have friends in Kansas City that do deliveries.
It depends on the hospital that you work for/through.

My daughter was delivered by a midwife in a hospital in Missouri. So the information that CNM's only practice as WHNP is false.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this post was- perhaps to make people mad and generate discussion. It worked! It is false that CNMs do not do deliveries in MO. It is false the hospital delivery is safer. It is false that giving up the desire to do homebirth would result in a full scope of practice for CNMs. I would believe this doc less and research more.
