Micro kicked my butt at Sac City

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

So I'm going to school at Sacramento City college...here it is required to get a B average for Micro and both A&P classes to be able to apply to the nursing program. Well, I started with the 8 week Micro course and just finished with a posted grade of a C. I worked my butt off in my class and am ten stupid points away from a B. So what this means for me, is that I'll need an A in both Bio 430/430...Anatomy and physiology. Right now discouraged isn't even close to describe how bad I feel, because I really don't think I can ace 430/431. I struggled to get the C I got. Does ANYONE have any suggestions for me? I just feel so lost right now. Uggh.

I go to SCC, too, and what I understood from the counselor was that you needed go get an A in just one of the A&P classes to offset that C. (And you need at least a B in the other one.) This results in the B average they want.

Advice? Well, first of all, 6 weeks is a relatively short about of time to cram all of that info into your brain -- don't be so hard on yourself. I, too, got a C in Micro when I took it. My plan, and maybe it can be yours as well: try to get an A in at least 1 of the A&P classes (430 or 431) and I can't, I will petition to retake Micro. I finished 430 last semester w/ a B. I, like you, don't think I can get an A in this class. So... I will do my best, and if I can't get that A, I will petitioin to retake Micro.

Can you use a voice recorder in class? i got one of those candy bar-sized ones and taped the lectures for A&P. I listened to them whenever I could -- walking, driving, doing dishes, etc... Helped get it to "stick" in my brain.

Websites were helpful, too, as well as helps here on this website. (getbodysmart.com) Watch as many videos in the learning center as you can.

And, really, what is 1 extra semester in the scheme of things if you have to repeat Micro? Afterall, it is highly likely that we'll both have to apply several times to get in. (A friend has applied 6 semesters in a row, has better grades than I do, and still hasn't gotten in.) So, while you're waiting, retake it.

Good luck! People are getting in -- why can't it be either one of us? :)

I took my micro class with *******, it didn't seem too tough and he was a great professor. Well, then I bombed my last practical, NO idea how, I was SO confident. Because it was an 8 week class, the final was the day after the practical and my brain was still fried from the practical. I know if I had had a day of rest in between I would have done better. Anyway, it is what it is. I'm feeling less lost today...and the idea of having to redo micro...omg. No. I refuse. I'm just going to HAVE to SOME how get an A in Bio 430. Somehow...

I feel your Micro pain, I really do!

One option people have shared on this site is that of taking Micro on-line. Do some searching of the thread subjects and see if you can find that thread. Might be the way to go, especially if you want to retake it AND Los Rios denies your petition. It is pricier than taking it through Los Rios, but... it's an option. You'd probably do pretty well, since you've already gone through it once.

You should definitely check-in with him to make sure there wasn't some mistake or misunderstanding, regarding your final grade/exams. I always fight for every point I can get -- you never know if the only thing separating you from a good grade is 1 pt! Never hurts to ask for clarity, especially at this point. Good luck! :)
