Micro Heads Up!

Published

O.K. so I'm taking Micro Next Month in August. An suggestions from those that already took it as to the best way to study/prepare in advance. Maybe any websites, Interactive C.D's or other helpful media. I got an Interactive Physiology CD in Spring and in was so helpfull to "see" what the professor was lecturing. Ended up wit an "A" and didn't even have to use my book tat much. What a waste of $150.00. I guess I'm more of a visual person and understand better when I can picture things/processes in my head.

Anyway,please let me know

Thanks

Ok...I'm in the same both as these two guys! I'm headed into Micro in Fall 2008. Any advice in preparing for this class will be most appreciated by us all. Thank you.

I take a 4 week micro biology course starting next month

Hmm..I'm not sure of any ways to get a heads up besides looking through the book ahead of time. I took it this past spring and all I can say is make notecards and work on memorization skills. It's a lot of information to go through and was one of the harder classes I took, but I ended up with a very high A...I really loved the class.

Good luck, guys!

succeeding in micro is no different than any other class.

-attend every class

-take good notes

-ask good questions

-review it every night

-read the book

rinse and repeat

ditto to all of the above with the added suggestions of:

- recording lectures and re-listening to them every night (my prof went really fast and it was hard to catch all the details)

- having hubby (or someone else) go through notes and ask me questions from notes/powerpoints the weekend before and the days leading up to the exam

good call, cant believe i forgot that. i love my digital recorder: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1179

one of the tougher subjects/chapters was on cellular respiration... be on the look out for that stuff.. i had to study VERY hard to get an A in micro, hardest class *for me* to date.. much harder then A&P imho.

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm starting Micro in the fall, so any heads up I can get is appreciated. Thanks for the hints and keep them coming!

From my favorite microbiology website folder on my desktop (sorry I don't have time to annotate the sites; some of them are fabulous):

If you want to get a "leg up" before you start the course, listen to and watch the powerpoint slides from Cochise (the second link above). They followed the general outline of my course, although in somewhat different order as the semester went on.

Good luck, everyone! Micro is really, really fascinating. :)

What course of study are you taking? It seems like you are beyond a Summer Semester system, and are taking 4 week classes before and after the Summer.

What school is this and where? Are you in China?

Thanks
