I am a Registerd Nurse in graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner.
I have approched political advocacy in the past and find my self at it again. The MI senate has a bill in committee (SB 1245) that would allow Advanced Practice Nurses (of whom I will eventually be a member) to write medication prescriptions free of delegation by a physician. This is already done independently in 14 states and 37 allow it without delegatory or supervisory conditions. More information can be found at http://www.micnp.org. I was hoping that you might at least send an email to a MI state senator. There are real access to primary care issues in this state for the underprivilaged, uninsured, and underinsured. This measure would allow that gap to at least partially close and allow great comprehensive care to others.
Please at least look at the site. You can even email your state reps from there. They have a form letter if you don't feel like writing. PLEASE take a couple of minutes to further the profession of nursing.
Thanks for you time.
