Mercy School of Nursing Charlotte - anyone else waiting to hear?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone was in this round of applications for Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte. When I applied for the Oct. 1 deadline (for May admission) it said on the website that letters would be sent by Dec. 15th. Then I got a letter stating that they'd send out letters by January 15th. Is anyone else waiting for selection, and does anyone know if that is a date that they give you as the latest you'll hear, or do you ever find out earlier than that? I know they said any changes to be submitted should be sent in by Dec. 1, so any chance it won't take until mid January? I'm pulling my hair out over here not knowing what to do next. I've already applied for financial aid and had the results sent to 6 different schools in 3 states, but I was really hoping to get in to Mercy.

Hey there

I have also applied to Mercy for the program beginning in May. When I went to the orientation session in October they told me that we would find out by January 15th. She made it seem like we probably weren't likely to find out any sooner than that. I'm glad you posted, I have been obsessively checking the site for people that have applied for the same term I did! I am hoping if I don't get in for May I will be put on the waiting list for August. I have a bachelor's degree in a non-related subject, but I didn't have any grades for my pre-reqs to turn into them because I am taking Anatomy I now and Anatomy II next semester. I have been a nervous wreck wondering, as Mercy is so far the only school I have applied to. I actually live in Charleston, but I applied in Charlotte because our schools here are either extremely competitive or have waiting lists until 2011! Hope everything turns out well for you, maybe we will meet in May!

I'm glad someone else posted too. I'm getting frustrated because I threw all my eggs in one basket too, and I'll be relocating as well. I'm kind of at a standstill because of the timing with the notification. I could easily start another school in January, but notification puts me past the start date at another school with no chance for a backup. If I were to start another school, they're going to want paid, and then that messes up my financial aid as well.

I've got all my pre reqs in, and I'm doing the CLEP for sociology. I actually previously attended nursing school, but a lot of life situations at one time made me decide to put off finishing. Then I didn't return right away, and my program required that if you were out 2 years you have to start over from the beginning. I wanted to move anyway, so I figured it was the perfect timing.

I think the thing that scares me is that I see these previous years' postings and they say I've got a bachelors and an overall 3.5 GPA and I'm waitlisted in the 30's. Wow. My GPA is good, over 3.5 and I've got A's in both Anatomy I and II and a B in Micro. I did well on the TEAS. I just don't know. But I certainly don't want to sit around until fall and not take any classes anywhere. I'd like to at least know if I should sign up for some classes in the spring. I was thinking about a BS in Biology for a future PA program, after nursing, or go full speed ahead into it if I couldn't get back into nursing school soon. I have a habit of taking on a lot at one time and I should be able to have that Bio done in just a couple years at most if I go straight through. I could knock out 18 credits in the spring, you know?

The uncertainty is killing me, LOL

I too am waiting to hear from Mercy! I have a BS in Biology and made As in micro and AP I & II. I got into UNC Charlotte's BSN Program, but Mercy is my first choice. I will post as soon as I get some kind of answer. I am supposed to start nursing classes at UNCC January 9th.....

So tell me what you are going to do, are you going to attend UNC and wait until you hear from Mercy then drop if accepted? I keep wondering if that's what I should be doing... I just keep thinking that's going to screw everything up with the financial aid process, and I really don't want to have the withdrawls on my college record.

I dont know. People have been telling me that is better to go to the first nursing school that accepts you because its so hard to get into nursing school. But I have fell in love with Mercy from visiting and talking to others, and am not that excited about UNCC....

My husband thinks I should go to the very first one, which is the 9th, since we'll have to relocate and I'll need to find a house while we're down there.
