Can anyone offer any insight into this hospital? What is the work environment like? RN pay? I have heard horrible things about it, particularly that the local residents prefer to drive to Toledo, Ohio for treatment instead of going there. Is this true? Thanks.

Your post is what the word around Monroe is. :twocents: We used to have a very good hospital and in some respects

it still is, but the better portion do go to other hospitals and their nursing center doesn't have any better of

a reputation. As far as the work enviroment better to talk to those who work there. I am an LPN :nurse: and reside

in Monroe, Mi.

I work at Mercy Memorial. I have been an RN for over twenty years in various hospitals in and around the Toledo, Ohio area and I can honestly say that the resources, equipment, and basic bedside care at Mercy Memorial outdo every hospital that I ever worked at in the past. It isn't perfect, but it has come a long way from what it used to be, and I mean that as a compliment. Also, we do a TON of business. I used to work at a hospital roughly the same size as Mercy Memorial in a suburb of Toledo and the census would be so up and down, and I would get called off accordingly. Not a problem at Mercy Memorial. The ER seems to be packed all the time, and the census on the inpatient floors never seems to drop, or if it does it's only for a day or so and then they start pouring in again. I have never had to admit so many patients on a shift in my life as I do at Mercy Memorial. Seriously, if people are still going elsewhere to receive care, then there must be a lot more sick people than ever before, because we are generally swamped with patients at any given time. I don't have any personal interest in making Mercy seem better than people perceive it to be, it's just a job, but I'm just stating what I have found to be true. The staffing is just okay, but as far as being able to find equipment when you need it, having nice co-workers who help each other out, and being able to sit down with management one on one with any concerns at a moment's notice, Mercy Memorial has been a good experience for me and it does circles around the other hospitals that I've worked at in those areas.
