Mercer or Augusta? HELP! Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I received my acceptance to Augusta University & Mercer University this week. My stats are:

GPA - 3.37

Science GPA - 3.0

TEAs - 82

I'm having trouble choosing where to go. For Augusta, I'll have to move to the main campus because I'm located in Atlanta, but it'll be a lot cheaper than Mercer. However, Mercer is right by Home and I can't imagine leaving but the cost is crazy. I only need one prerequisite to donfor Augusta but I have 3 more to do for Mercer, all that I have to do in the summer. I don't know what to do! How are the programs? What are your experiences? I need help choosing :(

Choosing a private expensive institution as Mercer over a public less expensive university as Augusta is not what I will do. Have no experience in either programs but if I were u I'd consider Augusta. Take your times and analyze the cost of attendance of each college including tuition, transport, housing and fees. Good luck with your choice. I see u applied to GGC tho what if you are accepted. Is it any better to the former choices?

Well take this into consideration as well Becky,

42k (total 2 yrs) at Mercer is most definitely a lot, but that's actually their discounted tuition for nursing majors which makes that price about the same (still a bit higher) as any other university for a Nursing Program

For a private college, that's actually not that bad.

Mercer has a "deal" / agreement with a few ATL hospitals to merge their nursing students into real jobs after graduation though.

If you go to Mercer, you're settle an ATL job already which is pretty sweet.

And as you've said, it's close to home. If you're within 20-30 min you could commute & save housing tuition.

On the flip side Augusta is 100% cheaper no doubt. Their program is also pretty good & since you said you got accepted into the Main Augusta Campus, you'll be surrounded by medical students every single day.

The entire Augusta Campus are all hustling med schools who are like-minded & the feel would be completely different from Mercer (if you've been, you'd know the feeling).

It'd definitely be motivating.

If you were to move into Augusta's student housing, honestly, the price might level out / get close to Mercer's overall price in the end anyways.

If you were planning on moving into a non-Augusta housing, it'll be a bit cheaper.

Overall Augusta will still be cheaper & you will probably still get a job as a nurse in ATL (if that's what you're pursuing), but you won't have a direct path like you would at Mercer.

So don't worry about the money.

The real questions are:

-Which environment do you want to be surrounded by (something familiar or somewhere secluded, but motivating)?

-Which Campus are you gravitating towards (without being biased towards Mercer for its location)?

-Do you want to take more classes to complete your prerequisite for Mercer / could you handle the 3 summer classes without jeopardizing your GPA?

-What do YOU want out of a college (again, without being bias towards location or $$$)?

-Would you be willing to transfer closer to atl if you went to Augusta for 1 yr if you ended up not liking the location?

Hi Beckyy!

I was accepted to mercer and augusta just today. I did not expect this, but am struggling because Augusta is a lot cheaper. I was wondering what you ended up doing! How did you make your final descision?
