Very much lacking at my school. To put things into perspective, I've only had one male preceptor so I'd assume a male mentor would be very unlikely. He's been doing nursing for over 20 years. He has great wisdom about the problems with nursing and says a lot rests at the doorstep of a strongly influenced feminine leadership. He also believes female nurses have created bad history, in general, with doctor-nurse interactions. His wife's a nurse too.
Here's a scary prediction. He claims half of our class will be out of nursing within 5 years. I've heard lot of stats in lectures but that's the first one related to nursing retention. Maybe it's a dirty little secret the instructors or school don't want to share?
