Thoracic Surgical Nursing text needed?

Hello everyone,

Are there any nurses specializing in Thoracic Surgical nursing?

I am a CCRN specializing in cardiothoracic surgical nursing.

I started as a nurse in General Surgery, and went on to spend about approximately 4-5 years each in CCU, CTSICU before landing in Thoracic Surgical.

For years, Thoracic Surgical has always been a part of our CTS department, sharing similar manpower and physical resources. About 4 yours ago, our local public health institutions gradually saw Thoracic Surgery splitting away from CTS to establish their own Thoracic Surgical division/dept.

We have since then dedicated increasing efforts to educating nurses in this specialization, to provide better care for Thoracic surgical patients, and thoracic oncology patients (who undergoes diagnostic and/or respective/curative procedures by Thoracic surgeons).

I am aware that there are institutions, globally and over in other parts of our Earth, who have had a longer history in establishing a Thoracic Surgery unit, with NP and APNs specialized in this area as well. We are sadly still lacking such professional nurses.

Our search for Thoracic Surgical Nursing texts have not turned out anything as well. We have been getting feedback from our trainees that they would like to have a Thoracic surgical nursing text. With Robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery and other new emerging technologies coming up, the trainees prefer a text that consolidates information in one place for easy access and reference, to keep pace with the rate of advancement.

I am seeking your experienced views as well as any opinions that you would be willing to share on the questions below. I hope that the large community of nurses here will help me to uncover a greater treasure trove of knowledge relating to Thoracic surgical nursing.

Do any of you know of Thoracic nursing texts, versus CTS and Med-Surg texts?

If there are indeed no such texts, do you think there is a need for such texts? (We pull together knowledge from surgeons, nurses, industry partners in addition to available texts related to CTS texts such as JOhn Hopkins CTS text, GTS text, nursing care plans, Med-Surg texts etc currently).

Do any of you have experiences related to Thoracic Surgical Nursing to share in the following:

1. Development of Thoracic surgery nurses (clinical professional knowledge and skills)

2. Evolution of Thoracic Nursing units?
