medical school confusion!

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

i have a couple of questions regarding medical school...

1. i am going to jeffco cc and plan on getting my RN and graduating with my associates degree in nursing (obviously). i would love to become an ob/gyn nurse practitioner one day. what steps will have i have to take to become a nurse practitioner after getting my ADN?

2. what degree is actually required to become a ob/gyn nurse practitioner? just a masters or higher?

3. what are some good schools around the st. louis area or in missouri in general to attend to become an ob/gyn nurse practitioner?

hope someone can help! it would be greatly appreciated! :)

i have a couple of questions regarding medical school...

1. i am going to jeffco cc and plan on getting my RN and graduating with my associates degree in nursing (obviously). i would love to become an ob/gyn nurse practitioner one day. what steps will have i have to take in medical school to become this? can i go straight from my ADN to MD?

You're talking about two different degrees here, Nurse Practitioner and Medical Doctor, two different professions and two very different educational paths. A nurse practitioner does not go to medical school.

2. what degree is actually required to become a ob/gyn nurse practitioner? just a masters or higher?

A masters degree in nursing.

3. what are some good medical schools in around the st. louis area or in missouri (or close to) in general?

Again, do you want to be a Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor?

and 4. if there are any ADN to MD bridge programs available anywhere... where at?

No, a MD has to get a bachelors degree with 1 year of chem, 1 of ochem, 1 of physics and 1 of biology and usually higher level math classes. They then apply to a medical school, which lasts four years. After this they obtain a residency in a specialized field which can last from 3-7 years.
