There is a petition in Florida to add a 'Medical Marijuana Exemption' to the State Constitution.
The group is called PUFMM, :redbeathe 'People United For Medical Marijuana' :redbeathe - and their petition can be found at
http://www.pufmm.org
They have gathered 25,000 signatures in a few months. Their website is almost perfectly tuned and they want to be on the 2010 November ballot. But they need the help of all care-givers :loveya:.
How could we best circulate this petition among nurses and health-care professionals ??
We will be putting together materials to train nurses in cannabis medicine, and are making a small library of research papers and links to academic medical sources. We are interested in as much input as we can get from the nursing community.
How can we spread the word and inspire a lively debate among the Florida community of health-care givers and nurses about 'Medical Marijuana in Florida' ??
- yours truly,
Yes, absolutely. I lived in California until 2002 and it worked well there for them, with the AIDS epidemic, and other serious cases. Marinol is not the complete 'drug'; is somewhat ineffective. Only THC, no cannabinoids.
There is a petition in Florida to make a 'Marijuana Exemption' Law, to make it okay to possess medical cannabis.

The petition is located at :

Thanks for checking it out ! Have a great day !!
Oh, it is a significant factor in 'wasting syndrome' and other declining states. Marinol is largely ineffective due to it being only THC - the psychoactive compound. It lacks the cannabinoids. Smoked cannabis is a crude delivery system, but presently it is all there is. It is still very effective, albeit smoked.
The full plant is used. Apparently there is a third category now of compounds called cannabidiols.
Three compounds: THC; cannabinoids, & cannabidiol
There are also two strains, one 'sativa' - good for appetite, depression, inflammation; and 'indica' - good for spasticy and pain. Then there is a hybrid of both strains, in varying percentages, so it is a matter of fine-tuning down to specifics.
We need research into cannabis medicine, like anything else that shows potential. There is a petition in Florida to legalize medical marijuana and it can be found at this link :
Please check out the site and surf the 'net to find the most recent cannabis- medicine lore. 13 states now have it, and about 10 more are close to passing it.

Thanks for your thoughts, Dannyc12, I concur with you 100%.
quote : "Medical marijuana should undergo the same examination as other drugs." : quote
Sometimes patients are their own worst enemies. And in this case 'the stoner' stereotype and language perpetually reduces objective credibility. That's why we need professional nurses to back this up, not the chronic user (often a patient ).
We should start by changing the name from 'marijuana', a Mexican slang term to "CANNABIS", the real scientific name. Latin for 'Two Sexed' (bis) and 'Canes' (canna), the female flower is for medicine and seed, the male plant is for fiber and other industrial uses.
At any rate, it has already been verified and approved by enough doctors and scientist groups that it needs more research. PUFMM WANTS to see real research into it, not as a patentable synthetic molecule, but as a natural, safe symptom relieving medicine. Study it out like the Germans have studied the herb St Johnswort and the protein L-Tyrosine as 'alternative' sources of a Prozac-like anti-depressant.
There are many 'alternative' ideas floating around and being tested in Europe and in Asia regarding natural substances and sources for medicines. The list is growing. But in the US research is usually narrowed in scope considerably by the protocols of pharma-giants, a too-high standard of proof, and under-funded grant studies.
What other proteins, enzymes, vitamins, herbs, and natural substances should we be examining ??
For a start, lets begin with......cannabis : (d-THC + 200 cannabiniods + cannabidiol = relief )
Thanks again for your consideration and input.
