Medical Exemptions for Vaccines- Can they be used in NS

Published

I had a severe auto-immune response to the Hepatitis B vaccine several years ago. I have proof of all my other vaccines which is all that my school requires. I want to be protected against Hep B and just had my titer drawn to see if there is some chance that I got immunity after one shot (although I know this is doubtful). My doctor said he would write a sufficient medical exemption for the vaccine. If I don't have immunity, I will obviously have to contact the nursing school. I was wondering if schools accept legitimate medical exemptions. I am in no way opposed to vaccines and understand the importance on both the patient and nurse end of the spectrum. I cannot receive this vaccine though and am wondering if I will not be able to participate in clinicals or the like. I know that some people are allergic or have other severe responses to vaccines, and I have a hard time believing a school would disallow you from participating if it is out of your control. Thanks!
