I was placed on Medi-Cal exclusion list for surrendering my California license. I'm able to apply for reinstatement of my California license in 2025... according to an attorney I'm able to appeal the Medi -Cal exclusion list this September in 2024. Has anyone been able to be removed from Medi Cal exclusion list while still surrendered in California? My multi state license is intact and unencumbered, have been working in plastic surgery this past year to stay safe. Any insights? This has impacted my life in so many ways I am currently having the hardest year of my life as I face nursing board discipline consequences. Any advice helps.

I came to this post hoping you had an answer. I live in a different state than CA and had to surrender my CA license, which I never actually needed or used so it's just been a huge waste of money. They put me on the blacklist, and now my hospital job in my home state is about to fire me b/c Medi-Cal is one of our payers, even though I doubt we've had a Medi-Cal patient in the entire year+ since I've been there. It doesn't make sense that I can't bill Medi-Cal with a current license in another state. Of course, this all happened on a Friday afternoon, so I'll just be sweating to death over it all weekend until I can call Medi-Cal on Monday and find out if there's anything I can do. There is so much hell on earth for the 2 drinks I had with dinner in a small town, not from the legal system but from the nursing boards, that I am honestly just considering going back to my old career. The cost of the drug diversion program alone is astronomical and I can technically never drink again for the rest of my life b/c they make you "admit" that you're a raging alcoholic. They treat me like I murdered babies and the repercussions NEVER end. I will likely NEVER get my CA license back b/c you have to work there after you finish the program in your home state before they will let you start THEIR program... all at your expense. You pay all of the legal/court fees to try and get it reinstated to the tune of many thousands of dollars. It's such a ridiculous money-making scheme, I don't understand how the boards sleep at night.
