Hello.
I recently relocated to Canada. I went to nursing school in the US and me and my classmates never found our med-surg book useful. There was a lot of content (over 1500 pages) but no information that is actually useful for nursing care and the sections were badly organized..
I was wondering what med-surg books people use in Canada (I am in BC currently).
I will be finding jobs in both LTC settings and hospitals. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced, useful Med Surg book?? Also, can I buy these books online??

My program uses Brunner & Suddarth's Textbook of Canadian Medical-Surgical Nursing (2nd Ed., ISBN-13: 978-0-7817-9989-8. It is also a beast - it's very comprehensive and most of it is relevant, not a terrible read in my opinion.

I used this text during nursing school, which I attended in BC.
Elsevier: Medical-Surgical Nursing - Two Volume Set, 8th Edition: Black & Hawks
I found it to be quite useful. Also try:
Elsevier: Clinical Nursing Skills and Techniques, 8th Edition: Perry, Potter & Ostendorf
I used this book in school extensively, and I have seen both books on the units have worked on, especially Perry and Potter.

I have this text for doing my Nurse Refresher Certification. I LOVE it! Lots of detail.
It's expensive new, and it may be hard to obtain because it's one of those texts i think most nurses would want to keep for reference. Unless you could get one on a site like Kijiji from someone who dropped out of nursing.
