MCPHS Boston

Published

Hi guys! I am an aspiring RN and have been applying to accelerated nursing programs (ABSN) this past fall. I grew up in Boston and absolutely love the city, so naturally, I applied to lots of schools there. I just got rejected from MCPHS Boston and am feeling very discouraged. Out of the other Boston schools, MCPHS didn't seem as highly ranked or competitive, so I was hoping I would get in there. I have a 3.3 GPA (all As in pre-reqs) and a lot of volunteer health care experience, so I thought I had a shot. I'm wondering if anyone knows how competitive MCPHS Boston location is so I can get a better sense of what schools I should now be aiming for. Please be candid so I know how many more schools I should apply to / the level of school I should be aiming for. Any insight is greatly appreciated! Even advice on how I can amp up my application etc. Thanks guys :)

I am not sure how their selection process works, but it could be based on their point system for selecting a candidate. Some schools are more holistic than others and look at the candidate as a whole. How many hours of experience do you have?

I did a bunch of different experiences over the last 2 years, so definitely near ~1000. ABSN programs don't require volunteer experience though, so maybe they were just looking at grades and my GPA wasn't amazing. Just concerned that other schools will be the same...

Experience is pretty important, because it gives you a platform to explain why you know deep down that you want to be a nurse more than anything.

Schools that focus on GPA and test scores can be harder to get into than some of the more "elite" schools which look at the candidate is a whole. You only have feedback from one school right now. You could reach out to their admissions department and see if you could talk to someone about why you didn't meet their standards, so that you can focus on changing that over the next year before applying again. Someone might be willing to talk to you. Don't give up. This requires a lot of effort and sometimes takes multiple tries. But as I said before, you only have feedback from 1 school.

Thank you ? I was definitely feeling discouraged but you did put it all in perspective...just 1 school. I think I'll call them too, that's a good idea ?
