MCI-Transferring Credits

Published

Has anybody attending MCI and then tried to transfer there credits to another University for a Bachelors Degree?

I'm planing on attending MCI, however i plan to move out-of-state upon graduation.

So i just wanted to see if there is anybody who graduated and had problems transfering credits not only to other virginia in-state universities, but also to any other out-of state universities if it applies to anybody?

The fact that the school is only regionally accredited..has me a bit concerned. :typing

Sunshine,

You should not have any problems with in state universities. I attend the Va Bch campus and I spoke with ODU, Hampton and NSU. All three accept the credits from your MCI degree. However, you may have problems attending an out of state university. This is because MCI is not NLN accredited yet. They are currently under review. Once MCI receives the accredition, my understanding is that all past classes are grandfathered in.

If you leave the school prior to receiving your degree, you will have problems transferring your credits. That is because MCI is a technical school and most schools do not accept the techinical school's credits without a degree.

Hope this helps!

Hello Sunshine327,

I am currently attending MCI prerequisites for the Sept. start day at VA Beach and before signing up I thoroughly researched their accreditation. I found that because they are owned by ECPI they are accredited. So, I called and spoke to ODU to find out if they except their credits and was told that as long as ECPI's name is on the transscripts along with MCI's name they accept the credits. I know that initally when researching their school they didn't show the link between them (MCI) and ECPI on their website but within the past month or so their website has been updated to show the accreditation of ECPI as apart of their accreditation. Therefore, since ECPI is accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (just as any other southern university ie.. Emory University in GA, Georgia Tech in GA, UVA, and others) they are just as accredited as any large university. If you have a school in mind outside of VA that you are interested in attending call there admissions dept and ask them if they take credits from ECPI. Here is an updated link to MCI's accreditation website and one for SACS where you can see all of the large southern unversities on their site.

Hope this helps you.... Take care and Good Luck.

I wanted to update here for anyone that was curious about information that the DON at the VB told me about the NLN accredidation. I was concerned because NLN says only the NN ADN program and the BSN at VB program were in candidancy status. The DON at the VB campus said that VB and NN applied as a package program for the accredidation so while the website says NN, both campuses are in candidancy status. She also said that the BSN program will be getting the full accredidation soon and then they focus the efforts on the ADN programs.

At my interview, I was told the same thing about the accredidation status. I know some girls in my class were concerned about the website not listing VB campus for the ADN. I'm moving out of state soon after graduation and was concerned about transferring credits too.

If you do move out of state, I know that ODU has an online bridge program and a lot of military wives participate in it!

So out of curiousity and hearing that some students were lied to while in the application process, I called NLNAC this afternoon. I called 800-669-1656 (the number listed on the website) was transferred about three times and someone said they would call back - and twenty minutes later she called back and said YES- VB AND NN ARE IN CANDIDATE STATUS FOR THE ADN PROGRAMS. She said that the website does only list NN but they will try to correct this. This really eased my mind and if anyone is searching for more info, I hope this helps!

FYI, and as a recent grad, I spoke with NLN and they do not recognize grandfathering of accreditation.

I was told by NLN and DON that you have to be a student at the school when they do the site visit. The BSN's site visit was in January. The ADN's site visit is in October. For the class that just graduated and the one that graduates next, they will not be grandfathered in.
