Massachusetts PMHNPs

Hi - can any Massachusetts PMHNPs respond and give me an idea of what it's like to practice here, particularly those of you who have your own private practice as this is my ultimate goal.

I have been reading this forum for several years and have learned so much! I've also been contemplating this career for several years, and now that my children are a bit older it is really time for me to figure out and do whatever I can to get accepted into a good local program.

Thank you in advance!

Specializes in Psychiatric Nursing.

There is an organization. MAAPN- Mass association of advanced practice nurses that meets, and advocates for legislative issues.

MA requires physician collaboration-minimum one meeting per 3 months. I found it hard finding a physician in Boston area because there are a lot of psychiatric residents. But there are also a lot of nurses in private practice. Sometimes nurses meet with a physician in a group to satisfy requirements. Physicians vary in what they charge and how available they are for phone consultation. I met with a psychiatrist in a group once/month and he charged $50 each. About 5 nurses-worked for him, worked for us. Organizations will provide a psychiatrist as part of their job.
