Applying to nursing programs in Maryland Fall 2014

Hi All,

This thread is intended for anyone who is considering applying to a program in Maryland for the Fall 2014. I would also love the perspective of anyone who has recently applied or is currently in an applicable program, or any graduates of applicable programs.

Here's the scoop:

I'm a Maryland resident (Baltimore Metro Area) applying to three different Maryland programs for the fall in 2014. I'm applying to Salisbury's aBSN program, Towson's (my alma mater!) regular BSN program, and UMSON's (University of Maryland, Baltimore) CNL MSN program.

The details:

I graduated from TU with a BS in natural science (interdisciplinary studies) with a 3.3 and most of the pre nursing courses completed. I scored in the 99th percentile nationally on the teas v, and I'm on track to get As (and possibly a B) I my remaining few pre-reqs.

I'm fairly confident in getting into TU and UMB, not sure about SU.

My main concerns/questions are about workload, quality of the programs, and financing.

I'm 22, not married, and without dependents, so, I will be a dependent student unless I attend the masters (graduate) program. This leaves me with the unsettling question of paying for my education. I hope to apply for the Nurse Corps Scholarship, and/or a graduate assistantship, and/or some assistance from a potential employer as I progress through the program.

I'm curious to know if people have strong feelings about any of the programs I'm considering, if any other applicants want to network or have suggestions, if any current students are working while in those programs, and if any graduates of those programs have had problems assimilating into the workforce. Basically, if you have anything to do with anything regarding those programs, I want to hear it! :).

I'm applying to UMB, but only UMB. The other nursing programs in the area just didn't compare as far as NCLEX pass rates and job placement post-degree. I only know one person that was in the CNL program and he said if he could go back he'd just get a second bachelors. The extra money wasn't worth it in his opinion as far as preparedness & extra opportunities afterwords.

I'm thinking that the masters might actually be the least expensive thing I could pursue, factoring in government aid. Do you know if he had any aid/why or why not?

I am unsure. I am guessing not because he owned his own company and am guessing he didn't qualify!
