I'm due to start my nursing program this June. I was looking through my packet of info and things to do (urine drug screen, criminal background check, immunizations, etc.) and saw a requirement to send a copy of my Medical Liability Insurance policy. I don't have one yet and frankly I wasn't aware I'd have to have my own policy (I'll find out for sure from the school after the weekend). I thought I just had to be insurable under the hospital's policy. Excuse my ignorance, but do students carry their own policies or are they under the hospital they are training through?
Best,
Dave

Hi Dave, welcome to AllNurses and to the Nursing Student Assistance Forum :balloons: In our ADN program, students are required to purchase their own Liability Insurance (indicating coverage of $1 million each claim /$6 million aggregate) through a malpractice insurance company in contract with our nursing school. The cost is minimal (around $29/ year) and worth every penny. No, the hospital will not cover you, since you are not an employee. Here are excellent links/ resources:

Thanks VickyRN. I was freaking out thinking it would be a lot more expensive.
