Macon State or Middle Ga Coll ASN's?

U.S.A. Georgia

Did any of you guys earn your ASN at Macon State or Middle Ga College? Or are your currently attending? I'm thinking about pursuing an ASN and I'm curious about what you think of their programs. Thanks in advance! :)

I began my ASN at Middle Ga College, received majority of core classes there, (had super instructors for the core classes) attended the nursing program there for one quarter, transferred to Macon State & now, I am a VERY PROUD graduate of MSC. MSC had a larger attendance, larger & more modern class rooms, more equipment to educate/train students with, choice of day or night classes, more facility choices to do clinicals, more instructors to chose from, classes that were not offered at MGC, etc.:balloons:

Hey was the Macon State College program hard to get into? I have a bachelors and was looking into the asn program there

Thanks!

I graduated from MSC in August 2005. Overall the experience was very rewarding. MSC now has two sessions a year that work on earning an ASN, they have one that begins in August (fall semester) and then another that begins in January (spring semester). I will say that the Spring Cohort is more demanding just because there are NO semesters off during the program. You go straight through the program. It is not always the easiest thing to do if you are married (or have a significant other), children, or have several other major commitments. I would recommend MSC in a heartbeat. The teachers were hard, but fair, they made me think, they challenged me, but they were also very helpful and supportive. They now also offer a RN to BSN program - for which I am considering finishing a few core classes so that I can apply in the near future.

It seems Middle GA College is easy to get into ? is it

Macon State required that all your core classes be completed. The exception to this was Microbiology. You could take that during your first 2 (?) semesters of the nursing program. The core had all your English, Science, History, etc. I'm not sure what the current requirements are. Personally, I would recomment making sure all the requirements including Microbiology are completed or will be completed prior to your entry into the nursing program. I took Microbiology during a summer semester with nursing classes - not a fun way to spend 8 weeks. You can look up the requirements at the Macon State website.

Not sure if it is easy to get into, but def hard to stay in. I did my first two years of BSN there and transferred out, but all I heard about was how hard the ASN program was there.

Specializes in none.

How is the program at Macon State College. I am concern as to why only 11 students are graduating for 2006:eek:

My graduating class was small, because our class only started with 24 students. We were the first class to start in the spring semester and I they weren't real sure how it was going to work. Yes, that means less than 50% of us graduated; however, not all of that was directly related to the classes. There were a few who dropped out of the program for different reasons. I think I was well prepared to enter the work force as an RN after graduating from Macon State.

I'm going to assume Macon State is harder to get into than Middle GA.

It's not a scientific observation or anything, but I know a couple people who couldn't get accepted into Macon State, but then did get accepted in Middle GA. I don't know anyone who couldn't get accepted in Middle GA but then did get accepted in Macon State.

I asked the nursing counselor what the criteria for entrance is at Macon State. She said it is a combination of 1) Prerequisites completed and 2) GPA, especially in A&P I and II.

Macon State has a lot of new slots. They have 50 in the fall and they have added 90 to the spring. The spring should be a good time to try and apply. I start this fall and I am very nervous. Good luck to where ever you go.
