LVN to RN ok or CNA to LVN to RN a must for CA?

Hello,

I am in the process of registering for an LVN course in the Los Angeles area. I called a school, and she said that if I am planning to upgrade to RN then I will have to take my LVN then backtrack and take my CNA plus my prereqs and then get on a 2 year waiting list for an RN program even though I already have my LVN. I said that wasn't something I had heard before and she said I was the first person to ever have heard something different.

I thought you get your LVN, then go to work for a bit, register for a bridge LVN to RN program, and get on with your life. Am I completely wrong? Also, I was under the impression that starting an RN course from scratch involves lotteries and long waits, but that if you are already an LVN you have a much easier time getting in. Am I wrong about that too? Any advice specific to the Los Angeles area is very welcome. I am in the San Fernando Valley.
