LVN needing advice if I should go for ADN or BSN then bridge to MSN. Advise plz!

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I passed the LVN boards in Spring of 2010 and had the opportunity of a couple LVN interviews to no avail. I have been thinking about going to Unitek college for their LVN-RN bridge program which would only take me 8 months to complete and a month or 2 of RN Nclex studying. I also found Indiana State U had an online LVN-BSN bridge which would take 2-3 years. I have completed all the required prereqs for nursing, but I wanted to hear from nurses who went through any of these routes. My main goal is wanting to have my MSN so I could achieve my dream of becoming a nurse manager.

Have anyone ever went through the ASN-MSN bridge programs? I heard they give you couple classes to fill in the BSN classes and then you can go into MSN classes. At the end of the program you get rewarded with both BSN and MSN. The ADN route would be quicker than going for a BSN and maybe I will have better luck getting a job than spending a year or 2 more going for a BSN.

Any advice would help since I am 26 years old and want to figure out the best route to take at this moment. Thank you to all the nursing advice.

I decided to go to an ADN program, because my pay status at work really changed!! Enough that I knew I could not afford myself anymore...lol. I too am pursuing my MSN; for money reasons I have to take baby steps. I have ADN, now working on BSN. I have an 8 year old son & a traveling husband; I have to take baby steps!! If you are able to live the way you are right now and go to school until MSN is done- then go for it! BUT.....you can make RN money while pursuing your BSN if you do an ADN program. The same with MSN program; you can make BSN money (management) while in that last leg of you goal. With each step, you have the ability to make more money while going to school. Just a thought...GOOD LUCK!

If you can get your RN in 8 months, do that....don't wait, you can always do ADN to BSN later, part time or full-time.

Good luck.

p.s. I'm in the same boat, I have my LPN, a BA in History and am trying to get into an ADN, BSN, MSN, PA program wherever I can get going soonest. I'm nearing 45 and life is short.

Thanks to the both of you for your responses. I feel going through the 8 month adn program would be helpful for me to start working and gaining experience as a RN. The ADN program would put me back 40k in the red, but I think it will be worth it.
