Hello All,
One quick question: What should I expect during Clinical Orientation for my new position at a LTC facility? I was advised by HR that it would take place over the course of four days, and would be followed by five days of "shadowing another CNA".

Generally, I have found that LTC Orientation includes the following:
~A tour of the facility
~A "classroom" phase where you learn about the facility's policies and practices. Usually you will go over an employee handbook and sometimes other materials. Everyplace I have worked has given us a packet of materials including brochures and other information. It's a good idea to read everything they give you.
~Normally you fill out necessary paperwork if it has not already been done, such as tax forms.
~Often, you will view videos about either the facility itself or about safety, fall precaution, resident abuse, etc. Sometimes you take little quizzes about these videos.
~They'll probably introduce you to the director of nursing or administrator or any other "head honchos", as well as the heads of any other departments.
~You may also have to complete a day of dementia training.
~Some places use the orientation time to give you your TB test and/or your physical, if those have not already been done.
I have found that the more orientation they give you, the better! It allows you a chance to get familiar with your new workplace and better prepares you to start working. Good luck!
