I need help in terms of information. My name is Eileen, I am an ARDS survivor and also President of the ARDS Foundation, a national, not for profit organization dedicated to supported those with ARDS, and their families, raising public awareness, education, and funds for research.
I get asked this question often, but never have adequate answers ... regarding vent facilities, throughout the country, when a patient is being moved out of the hospital. Often the families receive suggestions, sometimes not more that one option, regarding where to send their loved one, and often they are given one days to make this decision.
Some of these facilities have a very poor weaning record for vent patients and so I am painstakingly attempting to create my own list, in light of the fact that I have emailed every organization I can find and no one is able to give me a list of LTAC facilities.
Currently, I have about forty hospitals on my own list, not counting Kindred and other multiple hospital listings. If anyone can either help me by letting me know about a list or letting me know about facilities around the US or Canada, I would appreciate it.
Thank you for your time, Eileen

Eileen,
I work in a critical care unit in Denver CO and we frequently send long term vent patients to LTAC's. the one's we utilize are Select Specialty Hospital at PSL or at Porter's hospital. They are a "hospital within a hospital" They have a floor at PSL/Porter's where they are located at. I know more about the Select at Porters. They have very good pulmonologists that are really good at weaning from the vent's.
I would think that a good resource for you about what LTAC's are being used would be to contact the social workers or case managers of hospitals, they should be able to give you a list of area LTAC's.
Hope this helped!
