LPN school or not ? what are my other options?

Published

I really don't want to go to this lpn school i rather just go to a community college and get my RN there and transfer to a 4 year for my bsn. my school ECC has past this new rule this year about only being able to take the NLN entrance exam to the nursing program 2 times in your whole life and if you did poorly basically your screwed. I Know students who have taken it 10 times...its just not fair. I took this test my 2nd time again yesterday and my score didn't improve one bit. with this score i have no chance of getting into the 2 year RN program i initially wanted to get in to at my current school. Even with my good grades this NLN exam is what they really look at..I just don't know what my other options are and I don't know what to do...does anyone have any advice or been in the same situation?? What are my other options? i really want to be a nurse and I know i can do it..I just feel so defeated..I don't know what to do now..Please help!!:crying2:

Is that at Harper? One of my classmates just mentioned something about that at Harper. Here's my thinking on this. When I was 2O and starting out in college the pre reqs for nursing programs were WILDLY different then they are now (10 years later). If you truly want to be a nurse, stick it out- ride this wave and requirments change. So you took the test twice and didn't pass- try an LPN program. Do well in it. Very well, take all your pre reqs for ADN and pass them with great grades and if your school hasn't changed their rules by the time you are done with all that then apply for forgivness for your 2 previous attempts. By completing all the prior steps you will be proving to yourself and to the school that this is what you want and you will work hard to succeed. It might take you a little longer then you originally expected but just keep reminding yourself that each step is getting you closer to your dream. If you start working after your LPN even better- have your DON, ADON, Doctors etc write letters of rec. If after all that your school won't allow you forgivness then you move on and do a bridge at another school wile working for a company that offers tuition reimbursement.

Thanks DespSeekingNursing for responding. The school I was going to was ECC. I like your input you have a point. I was thinking the same thing. I made up my mind about going to this LPN program its called jrenee- in crystal lake the only thing is its so rediculously expensive its 20,000 for there 1 year lpn program there like whoa..but its my only chance. so Im going to do it. About this applying for forgiveness for those 2 nln exams i took. what does applying for forgiveness mean? how do i go about doing that? i did not know there was such a thing as applying for forgiveness. can you tell me a little more about it. thank you so much for your input it really helped :wink2:. Oo and i actually called Harper up to see what there entrance requirements were for the nursing program. It turns out you can take the nln exam only 2 times a year but its always changing so who knows by the time im done with the lpn program it could be different. thanks again for your response.
