lpn to rn or straight to bsn prgm?

Published

hello

i am new to this site.

i need some input so plz help on 2 questions~

currently doing LPN. one more class to finish and expecting to take the nclex around September

my heart is set on studying til graduate school.

1)should i take one step at a time and do

LPN-ADN/ASN-BSN-MSN

or go straight to BSN from LPN?

i like to finish in little time as possible

but i expect to work as well.

2) is online program a good option? or is classroom setting still better?

I am in Northern suburbs of Chicago if it helps answering my questions..

Thanks for any input~

I am an LPN. I've been an LPN for 12 years, was a CNA for 6 years before that. It is difficult to get motivated to go back to school when you leave... but I believe the stair step process helps you understand each step and the importance of each. I think I appreciate my CNAs more because I know exactly what they do and the difficult tasks they have... same with LPN when I become an RN.

In my circumstance, it is more convenient, easier, and more cost effective (instead of 2 years, I will grad in 1, have my RN degree so I will be getting paid as an RN -instead of LPN- while I finish up with my BSN) to just go now and get my RN done straight away, then do my BSN online while working.

As far as online or classroom, that is a very personal decision. I've done both... I tend to procrastinate with online classes and am not as focused. Classroom is better -for me- so I do as many classroom classes as possible, but still do some general ed. classes online. I don't think I want to do actual nursing classes online -I just don't have the discipline. Once I have my RN, and go for my BSN, I may change my opinion since I will be in the habit of homework then - as long as I start as soon as I graduate.

Good luck!
