LPN or RN program + having children? Advice please.

Hello everyone,

This question is plaguing me for about a year now and I really need some advice.

I've worked as CNA in a hospital for couple years now while finishing bachelor of science degree. Now that's finished and i'd like to become a nurse. There are couple options but i'm really uncertain what would work the best. All the prereqs are done and competitiveness of a program is not an issue. I'm not in US so just changed some titles to not confuse people not familiar with Australian system.

Also, I'm married and we would like to start a family in the next 3-4 years.

1) I can go to 18 month LPN program, followed by grad year and work as LPN in hospital. Where I live, they are still employed in acute care with scope very similar to that of RN. Have children while working as LPN and then do a bridge (further 2 years + grad year)

2) I can stay a CNA for next 4 years and get into graduate entry masters RN 2 years course. Do a grad year and then have children while working as RN part time. That's 7 years before having a family though and it doesn't feel right to wait this long. And trying now feels too early.

For LPN course i'd have to pay 10k out of pocket (manageable), for all RN courses it would be loans which i cannot get in the next 4 years hence the wait. I love my CNA job but not sure I want to do just that for 4 years + length of the program. I've done every course I could that allows me to do a little bit more in this hospital. I'm craving more responsibility and not studying is just a bit boring.

Any advice is appreciated.

Kids are amazing, but they make mostly anything more difficult. Having kids and attending school is not impossible, people do it everyday. It's up to you if you want to add the extra responsibility
