did anyone receive any credit of non nursing degree that was done about 10 years ago. I was wondering if i could get credit for my degree towards the non-nursing courses? Thanks

I think you are asking about transfer credits. Are you trying to use courses you took from a prior degree and request for transfer credits for non-nursing courses. Usually to apply for transfer credits they have to be within 10 years from when you took them but that varies depending on the university and the particular course. I received transfer credits that went towards electives in the BScN so most likely you would have to submit your transcripts and course outlines for the university to assess its transferability.

Thank you .... Yes exactly that is what I was trying to find out. I have a degree in IT. So I was wondering if I could ask for some credits towards non nursing courses at least. But I guess I will need to register in the program first. Or can I do that as unclassified student too??

In order for the university's transfer credit department to assess your transfer credit application you would need to be a student that is registered with the university. Most of the electives that are applicable to BScN may often be professional or liberal studies courses such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, etc... so if you have taken courses from these areas you have a great shot in receiving transfer credits. Don't forget to search and include course outlines to support your application. If the course outlines are not detailed you can provide assignment instructions or graded assignments to support your application.

Courses have to have been taken within 10 years. I contacted the university to see if I could apply for transfer credits before I apply for the nursing program since I have some that are about to hit 10 years (and I'm not done the LPN program yet so can't apply!) and they said no :( I was so happy that my year of university wouldn't be wasted and then I saw the "10 year" requirement. So sad!
