LPN to....which one?!

Published

Hey everyone! I am currently in an LPN program, and I am sort of in the dark about what to do to go further! Here's a little backstory: I started college in 2008 and had some trouble deciding my major. I was told nurses were considered "walking secretaries" and was scared away from nursing. Instead I finished a surgical technology degree. While scrubbing ortho cases I fell in love with the surgical first assistant role, and in my state NPs are frequently used as first assists in surgery (this may be common, I have no idea). I couldn't get into a four year RN degree because of the credits I have already taken and I decided to go through the LPN (with IV certification) route and go from there. I am 23 and still young so I'm going for it! My issue is this: should my next plan of action be the LPN-BSN route? LPN-RN? Should it be something different? Is there something I may be missing education wise? No matter who I talk to I always get different information. School guidance counselors, teachers, its always the same. So far I have called all of the surrounding schools and requested information for admission and placement tests but I don't know what choice is best!

Edit: The reason I am looking to end with being an NP is because many doctors in my state have NPs work with them in the clinic and help them on OR days. It's an upgrade from where I was at! --> I get to do surgery and administer direct patient care also while they are coherent!
