Hi LPNgirlie33. I'd love to have your job. I worked 2 halls in a LTC facility fresh outta school making 19.50 hr and didn't last long there. Granted, it was a learning experience and had a lot of stuff to be learned, but pretty much you're the middle man in a short staffed environment. The sec I hit that floor, it was labs, setting up appts, who's getting picked up by who, getting dr orders, then off to meds and tx, and running back to the station to answer calls, and skin assessments, and charting, and gotta pass out meal trays (which is a wrench thrown in your med pass and it's not fun watching staff eat their meals while feeding pts)...not to mention all the protocol you gotta do for a new admit, discharge, and heaven forbid a fall and then dealing with staff/family/escapees. I had wonderful co-workers and horrible HORRIBLE ones as well. I never took a break and was on my feet like there was no tomorrow while my aids were completely taking advantage of it. So long story short, it may be for some, but it sure aint for me. The LTC left a really bad mark on my heart, but I hope it may be different for you.
