I am an LPN in Michigan. I currently work at a plasma donation center. I am not IV certified, and have no experience with IVs. According to our standards of practice for our center, some donor reactions require IV intervention, so they can get more saline. That is the order from our physician as well. My boss said that I can just give them more powerade to drink, if I’m unable to do an IV. I don’t feel this is safe for the donor, and I also feel like my license could be at risk because I won’t be able to follow the doctors orders. Does anyone know if LPNs have to be IV certified to work with IVs in Michigan? Any other LPNs that work at plasma centers that have similar situations?
