MY TESTIMONY LOVELY PROFESSION I NEVER KNEW BEFORE””NURSING”

My name is Turikumwe Theophile, I am 27 years old from Rwanda ( east Africa). I am registered nurse recognized by both Rwanda and Zambia nursing council. Today I live and work in Zambia.

In my life I have never dream to become a nurse; when I was child my dreams was to be a doctor. In that period my dreams was not to be a nurse not because I did not like nursing , but because I had not information about nursing career, in that time I thought that nursing is for women only and that the responsibility of nurses in hospital is to help doctors. At the end of my high school studies, ministry of education has appointed me to continue my studies in general nursing in Kibungo school of nursing and midwifery. This was a very bad news to me, I did nothave any other choice because this was government sponsored scholarship and I was not able to afford private university. I had two solution: to go there or to stop my studies. Finally I took decision of to continue my studies.

Arriving in Kibungo school of nursing , they had explained to us what is Nursing sciences, the responsibilities of nurses both in community and hospital and how nurses are needed in my country and worldwide and this was a very good occasion to ask questions. From that time my mind has changed immediately, I said : woooh I am in a very good profession and I will be productive to my country. From that time I have started to be proud and confident of my profession . Since I discovered that I am in good way , I became a brilliant student especially in practices, I remember most of the time in clinical practices the seniors nurses use to ask me : have you ever work as enrolled nurse?” because they was surprised by the way I working. I finished my studies with distinction ( 3 years).

After ending my studies in 2011 ministry of health has appointed me to work in University teaching hospital of Kigali in accident and emergency department. This hospital is the biggest and the busiest hospital in Rwanda especially A&E department; high number of patients and few number of nurses. Of course I started my job with self-confidences and energy. I first three months in job until now I have been surprised by the way patients appreciate the cares I give to them, and most the doctors appreciated the way I work with them. Most of the patients come back to thank me after being discharged. This appreciation ( by patients, by my colleagues ) pushed my heart to love more my profession today I feel nursing in my blood and I am proud to be a nurse”! Today I thank God for orienting me in nursing , lovely profession that I never knew before.

I dream to be a strong nurse, I dream to continue my studies and become more professional, I dream to work hard and help suffering peoples, I dream to be a good trainer of future nurses.

Today I have diploma , my wish is to continue my studies and become more professional. I wish to continue my studies abroad where I will be able to be trained to international standards. Unfortunately I am not able to afford my self all of that. I hope I will find a sponsor I do not know when but I am continue dreaming.

Specializes in Emergency, ICU.

I wish you luck in your search for a sponsor. Thank you for sharing your experience!
