Looking into Navy Reserves as a student nurse

Published

Hello,

I were wondering of someone could help or give advice. I spoke with a recruiter about doing the reserves. I have about 2 years left to obtain BSN. I were told it's pretty hard to get into nurse corps anyways for they look for people with lots of experience, and to join reserves before obtaining BSN. Can anyone give advice as to if it's best to wait until BSN or to join reserves now and apply for nurse corps once BSN is obtained. I would also would like to hear from you single parents as well. Thanks!!

Do not join now if you want to be a nurse in any branch of the military.

It is competitive to get in as a nurse, but it's even more competitive and complicated to get in as an enlistee and THEN try to go over to the nursing side. The military isn't like the civilian side--they don't hire "within" first.

Also, joining now would likely offset your education as you'd have to attend training and fulfill obligations to the Navy before your schooling. I know several servicemembers who are also students who had to drop their nursing programs due to deployments.
