Looking for LPN grads from BOCES in Dutchess and Ulster counties

Published

Would like to know how the LPN programs are at these two locations I'm considering. Although Dutchess is closer for me to attend, I'm leaning more toward Ulster simply because they offer evening classes. Would like as much imput on entrance exam and how difficult the course will be for someone in their late 30's who has been out of school for awhile. Also, what are they looking for in the Essay they require you to do?

Ok Here is how it goes. First you have to pass the entrance exam. You get 2 tries to pass the math. good luck. After your excepted you will start out with about 35 in your class and after 4 to 5 months only half your class will be left. Yes its that hard. I graduated in June of 08 with honors but it took 5 hours a night of studying. If you are unlucky enough to get Mrs. Staffa you will certainly fail. She is on a mission to make nursing school as hard as she had it and she makes that very clear in class room discussions. Cross your fingers that you get Mrs. Meyers she is patient and understanding. Boces diffently doesnt sugar coat the program they are honest about how hard the program is. Four months into it you have to take a pharmocology math test and get a 100% or you will be asked to leave the program. There are test and quizzes every day and you are only allowed to miss 3 days a year. My advice is to go part-time and make sure all your kids are in school full time. You will need a strong support team at home. You will cry, laugh, kick and scream through the program but if you give it your all you will make it. The key is to eat, drink and live nursing for the next year or two depending if you go full time or part time. GOOD LUCK.
