Looking for any current or past Christ Hospital students

Published

hey everyone!

so my pre-registration packet came in the mail yesterday, and i'm writing out different scheduling scenarios. i was wondering if anyone who went to, or is currently attending, the christ college of nursing could help me out with something. are there any professors there to stay away from? any that are really great? i know at uc there are definately a few to stay away from if you want to learn anything, and i didn't know if christ was like that. also, if you could pm me, maybe i could run some professor's name's by you and you could let me know your experience with them, or what you know about their teaching styles? it would be really helpful! i want to ensure i get the best educational experience i can, and especially my first semester. thanks!

oh i tried to look on www.ratemyprofessor.com , but there was only info on a small handful of professors. probably because it's still a newer school.

Dear Amanda,

Congratulations!:yeah:

You will always remember this time in your life.

I am a current student at Christ and I dearly love the school.

The professors are very caring people.

The school is small, which means you'll make friends quicker.

You will really enjoy your time at Christ.

If you need any books cheap -- let me know.

Renee

Hey Amanda,

I have received my packet as well. I have had the stomach virus so I have not really looked at it much. I briefly glanced at it. What tract are you taking? What are the hours you are looking at taking? I can't decide whether to take A,B,C,D.

Thanks

Christy

Christy,

Sorry you have a stomach virus . Feel better soon! I'm taking the two year track. I'm looking at taking 16 hours (if my English doesn't transfer after taking the placement exam), and then 13 (hopefully!) if it does. I'm hoping to be able to take the 'C' block. They way my particular classes end up that way I don't have any classes on Monday, and get to leave no later than 2:30 throughout the rest of the week! 'D' block is my second choice. How many hours are you hoping to take? Are you doing the 2 year or 3 year track? I have my meeting with Sandy Millward next Thursday for the pre-registration. I just sat down and made a weekly schedule by day of the week and time, and started plugging in different classes until I found some options that worked for me. Good luck with figuring out which block you prefer... talk to you soon!

What day do you register in June? I go on June 16 in the morning. Hope I don't look too hideous that morning since the id badges are that day too! Lol. Feel better!

renee,

thank you for the reply and the congratulations!! this has been something that i've been wanting very badly for a long time, and it's finally happening! yay! that's great that all the professors are really caring. are there any in particular that you would highly recommend? what sort of supplies are new students required/recommended to get? i wanted to start browsing around early for some good prices. i'm seriously considering a palm t/x, but am not sure of what nursing supplies to start pricing. are you on the two year track, or three year? do you work at all while in school. i'm hoping to find something at christ where i can work 4-8 hours per week (enough for gas money... well hopefully). is there any good advice for a new student at christ? i've been to college before, but i'm sure this will be different. thanks again!

amanda

p.s. i may take you up on the books thing once i know what i'll need to get!

Dear Amanda,

You will enjoy meeting Sandy Millward -- she is the Assistant A&P Professor.

If you have any A&P questions -- she's your go to person!

QUESTION: Which Track?

I took Track D for the following reasons:

1) The classes are THUR & MON.

2) I like the Professors: Bolt, Kowel and McFadden.

QUESTION: Two or Three year program

I am in the three year program.

I started last year as a two year students, then switched to the three year track.

So, when clinicals begin in August, I'll be starting my second year at the school.

I'm so glad I did it this way.

QUESTION: Medical Supplies

I went to Allheart.com for my nursing supplies (they seemed cheaper to me).

After you register for your classes, you'll go to e-campus.com to buy your school books.

That is where you will find a list of the required medical equipment.

I purchased:

1 Stethoscope

1 blood pressure cuff

1 nursing clipboard chart

1 pin-light

1 Gate Belt

QUESTION: Purchasing PALM

That is a question for one of the nursing instructors.

My recommendation: Drive-up to the school, stop-in and ask to speak with anyone of the clinical instructors that might be available.

It's also a nice way to introduce yourself to the instructors and get to know them!!!

They can tell you if a PALM would be helpful.

Hey, let me know what they say!!

QUESTION: Can I work?

Yes -- we just had the HR Personnel stop by two weeks ago.

They said they have a special code for Christ Nursing Students.

It identifies us as Christ Nursing Students.

Call HR at Christ HOSPITAL and they can tell you.

WOW!

I think I'll stop here or this is going to become a book!!!

See ya,

Renee

I'm looking at taking the A schedule or the C schedule. I'm planning on taking 16 hours to start and then as the program get harder I'll only take 13 hours for the rest of the semesters. I'm currently enrolled at Sinclair in English 111. I have already taken the english requirement from my previous BS degree, however it would not transfer because my credits are over 10 years old. So this is my question. If I pass the english entrance exam, does my UC (old) credits transfer or will I have to take another English thru Sinclair this summer?? What do you think?

I think the essay will be hard. Who wants to write about a 16th century political leader?? I hope your registration goes well. I just now emailed to obtain my appointment. I still haven't decided where I'm going to school. Either Good Sam or Christ. I am leaning towards Christ so far. I'm choosing the 2 year tract.

Regarding your "old" credits -- I would contact:

Vicki Gaffney @ The Christ College - Asst. Dean or,

Fred Wingham @ The Christ College - Registrar.

They will know the answer -- I'm not certain.

My English credits were not accepted -- they were too old.

So, I took English I, II, and III at Cincinnati State.

Also, I had to take Chemistry and Biology before I applied.

Again, Vicki and Fred will know exactly what you need.

They are really very caring people and very helpful.
