X factor I am not going back to school I have a BSN in nursing not matter what u do u still have to have a license to practice. Even going for a masters degree after that u have to take the exam. I want to go for my masters in midwifery but that is later on. I just need to get my strategies and test taking skills together. I can do this. If everyone can pass so can I. GOD is going to help me this time.

Can u at least get it down between 2 answers? Maybe if u post a example question u got wrong we can see what ur thought process is to getting the wrong or right answer

Cyoung I can't remember any questions. I took my state board on September 21, 2012. I know my content just have problems applying the information.

Yes I understand its been 4 years but you should still contact them and explain your situation. Maybe a professor that you had a good relationship could offer you guidance. So you say you graduated 4 years ago, did you take the nclex right away or waited?

I think you need to try to take an actual refresher course. You say you've taken 3, but were those REFESHER courses approved by the state, or just REVIEW courses like Kaplan or Hurst. A refresher course is different than a review course. You say you are weak in critical thinking when it comes to exams... that is a huge problem. Nursing school starts teaching critical thinking from Day 1 of the first semester by using NCLEX style questions on the exams. This is to prepare you to think critically and prepare you for the NCLEX, which is all critical thinking questions. Every single one. If you can't think critically, you have no hope of passing the NCLEX because critical thinking is the basis of the exam.

As others have said, you need to contact your school. It's only been 4 years. Contact them and explain the situation. They will be able to assist you in recommending a good refresher course that may be able to help you be more successful on the exam. Otherwise, it honestly sounds like the school failed you academically. I can't see an academically sound nursing school graduating a student with a BSN who is so weak in critical thinking skills on exams, as you have admitted. It sounds as though they failed to adequately prepare you with the skills you needed to be successful.

I would recommend contacting the school as well. Even though it's been a while since you graduated your school should still have a vested interest in seeing you succeed. If nothing else to help up their numbers in terms of graduates who pass NCLEX. For some people that's a deciding factor in choosing a program so they want their students to pass. The worst that could happen is they say there's nothing they can do but it couldn't hurt to call and ask.

I agree with the above posters. My school holds nclex review for free that is taught by the same instructors that we had during the program. A school should really want to help you succeed unless they are going for pure profit and your success means nothing. I really don't understand how you were able to pass the program without the proper skills

Kemifair, you stated the various options you have done on various posts on AN, and YET you still have a difficult time with the BASIC foundation of what is required to be a nurse. I agree to go back to your school and get their assistance. You will have to go through a RN refresher course with clinical skills and theory. Do not waste another dime on taking the NCLEX without getting the fundamentals of what is required: Critical thinking and nursing judgement skills.

I had a co-worker who failed the NCLEX and worked as a tele tech for almost TWO years before she was forced to take the NCLEX again-my job said she was going to be "let go" if she didn't take the test and pass. She went through a RN refresher course, got a tutor for the NCLEX and passed. She not only kept her job, she worked in the floor as a RN.

You owe it to YOU to combat this...go back to your school, find resources for a nursing refresher course FIRST before you do ANYTHING ELSE.
