Long Term/Acute Care

Published

hello! i am just about to start a cna program from kansas college of nursing.... they say they certify you to work in long term facilities; however i would really like to land a hospital job, as i have plans to continue my education in the nursing field. are there different types of certifications? long term or acute? does anyone have any tips or have any advice on landing a hospital job right after completion of the course? or do you generally have to work in a long term place first before trying to get into the hospital setting? any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!!

CNA 1 is for long term care and CNA 2 is for acute care. When you are at school ask about CNA 2 and see if you can get into that program right after you finish your CNA 1. When I got my CNA 1 back in 2007 you needed at least six months experience working in long term care before the hospital would hire you. I don't believe that is the case anymore because I am noticing more and more these days you can be fresh out of school and still land a hospital job. Hope this helps!

Yes! Thanks so much for the feedback!
