2016 Lone Star College Hopefuls

Hello to all! It has been quite some time since I have been active on this site, but now seems as good a time as any to get involved again. I am currently an LVN getting ready to apply to Lone Star College for the LVN to RN transition program for 2016-2017 and thought we could use a page for the upcoming application period and academic year, as I could not find one already made.

A little about me...I graduated from LSC Kingwood in 2012 with my LVN and have been pursuing my RN on and off since then. It wasn't until this past Summer that I have gotten more serious, and am now looking to start applying as the application period opens up for Kingwood in March to start in August. I have completed the necessary prereqs and taken my HESI test. I am currently enrolled in AP 2402 and Micro so that I won't have to worry about them over the Summer or during the program.

Since I know it will come up...here are my HESI scores:

Math: 100

Grammar: 96

Vocabulary: 92

Reading Comp: 92

AP: 88

Critical Thinking: 900

That makes my application score 7.74 out of 8.

Looking forward to the journey ahead!

I was going to apply to lone star but opt to apply to chamberlain... Best of luck with your journey

Thank you, Ladybug. I personally don't know anyone who has been through Chamberlain's program, but I have always heard good things about the quality of it from those who do.

Best of luck to you!

Has anyone been to an information session? I work full-time and am nervous about the class & clinical schedule. Thank you!

Has anyone been to an information session? I work full-time and am nervous about the class & clinical schedule. Thank you!

I have been to both Montgomery's and Kingwood's info sessions. Kingwood's schedule, from the way I understood it, is 2 days of class and 1 day of clinical weekly, for a full calendar year. The class days are back-to-back, either Monday and Tuesday, or Wednesday and Thursday. The clinical day floats, and Saturdays are available but not guaranteed. Class days are about 5 hours long, morning or night and the clinicals are 8-12 hours.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, they were actually a little vague about how the schedule would be laid at out Kingwood's info session. I don't know if it was intentional, allowing them the freedom to change it, or what. I emailed Valerie Aguirre after the fact to try to clarify and even then, she was somewhat vague. If I were you, I would call or email her and try to squeeze as much info out of her as you can. She's typically very helpful.

Good luck.
