Please feel free to move this, should this not be in the correct forum.
I just recently, as of 20 minutes ago, found out that Lincoln Tech in my area will be offering a LPN program; it's Full-Time, Monday-Friday from 8AM-4PM (not sure when clinicals are, but shall ask tomorrow) - beginning AUGUST 2009!! Yes, in 2 months!!. However, it's the FIRST class - ever at this location, and is only accepting 30 people - and these 30 people MUST all pass with 100% passing rate in order for this LPN program to even exist next year. I am going tomorrow to meet with an Admissions Counselor to see if I should even pursue this venture. He mentioned that they are approved by the BON, but it's conditional based on how well everyone does. I already have my hopes on entering into another LPN program come Feb 2010 - but if I can start in 2 months, then I would certainly want the opportunity!
I would have to take the NET test, even though my other program requires the TEAS. Being that this is soooo last minute (it's only June 17!!), I would most likely have to scramble and shuffle and get all stressed out in order to be in this program. Not to mention the cost - I am assuming it would be around the $30,000 +??? It is Lincoln Tech after all - they are known for being $$$$$$$$$. In addition, I am scared that who ever they hire to teach the course won't have a clue as to how to educate and prepare us - I really am nervous about that.
OH....and should I be worried that this is the FIRST class? Would I be better off going to an established school with a 95% passing rate, or give this newbie school a shot? I wouldn't want to make a huge mistake....
ADVICE please?!! I'm biting my nails, and waiting for my meeting/interview tomorrow!! Wait...I don't even know if I will pass the NET....!!
Thank You!!

If Lincoln Tech is as expensive as it was when my son was looking at auto mechanics there ($25K for a 15-month course-6 years ago) I wouldn't do it. That's a big loan that will take a long time to pay off on an LPN salary. Even if cost is adjusted for the area where you live, so are LPN wages.
Plus, if the BON approval is going to be based on how well the first class does, I would really wait. Would you want to shell out all that money and time only to find that one of your classmates did not do well enough?
Too much risk and too much money. I'd look elsewhere.

I have to agree with the above. There's always a person or two that drops out of school (or flunks out), and it's not fair that they should ruin it for everybody else. And the cost is WAY too much! More than I paid for LPN school and RN school combined! If there's no other option, consider it, otherwise go the other route. Good luck!
Thank you Katnip and MollyPita,
I don't think it was meant for me to meet with the Admissions Counselor, because as I was walking to the train station (nope, don't have a car yet), it began raining really hard and the wind was blowing my umbrella around. As I got to the station my umbrella flipped upside down, and it metal rods broke! I got soaked and had to cancel my appointment - no way was I going to sit on an air conditioned train WET and cold, then have to walk to the office without an umbrella.
SO - I figure that was a sign? Maybe I am better off waiting until December to take my TEAS and begin school, God willing, in Feb 2010.
Oh well
