Hi Everyone,
In an attempt to prepare myself for when I start my Air Force application I'm looking for any advice on the five letters of recommendation that are required. Who are the best people to ask about writing them? (former or current employers, teachers, family friends, former or current coworkers?) Is there a certain length and/or format that they have to be? Do they have to have known you for a certian amount of time? I have a friend I used to work with who is enlisted in the Air National Guard who is probably the one person who knows how much I have already gone through with the military and how much I want this...would it be ok to have him write one of the letters, or would that lack influence because it might make it look like he was just a friend doing me a favor? Thanks in advance for your input - any suggestions are appreciated!

There is no requirement for Letters of Recommendation for any Nurse Corps application. There is a requirement for three (minimum) evaluation forms, AFRS Form 1373, to be completed by senior RNs. There is a maximum of five evaluations for clinical skills. What I do is have applicants get three evaluations completed and submit two Letters of Recommendation on official letterhead from either senior military members (former or current), or someone of senior position (chair, manager, CEO, congress, etc.) to describe the applicant's leadership potential. This covers both sides: Clinical skills and leadership.

Thanks for the reply Sharky! So when you are talking about form 1373 being completed by senior RNs, if I'm a new graduate that would be my instructors at school right? Also, for the letters of recommendation I don't really know any senior military members and have only had two jobs in my whole life, so the only person in a senior position I could ask would be my most recent manager...would that be a problem?
