Leave time after COT

I've been looking at OTS forums and stuff but I can't find any answers. Of those of you in the AF that have completed COT already. How much time did they give you from maxwell to your gaining base?

Usually all you get is just your travel days which vary by the distance to your gaining base. Your gaining base will usually let you have permissive TDY for 8-10 days for househunting + 2-3 days for household goods etc.

Do you have to be at your gaining base first and then they give you extra time?

You have to sign in at your gaining base and then go through your supervisor & commander to get the permissive TDY.

Will you have sent your household goods before or after COT? You should get a couple of extra days if you have to send your household goods to your gaining base/new residence after COT.

I will have my household goods sent after cot.

I just graduated COT at the end of June. I got 7 days to get from Maxwell to Travis in California. Those 7 days are "free", as they don't count against your leave. If you go over that you are permitted 10 more days, but then you are charged leave, so you will be in the negative, and you should try to avoid this. After I signed in at Travis I was given 8 days for house hunting. Let me know if you have more questions.

ok I have a couple of questions, for ex. I will be going to lackland after COT but I am only given three days to get to tx from there but I have to pick up my wife mind you and we live in augusta, ga. I know it can be done in 3 days but geez. I will have to go straight running back home right after COT so I can get my stuff in the uhaul. When is the 3 days counted? Is the 3 days counted from the day of graduation or is the 1st day considered the day after graduation? Will it be for sure I get the 10 day permissive tdy once I sign in my gaining base, because that's very important. Now those 8 extra days you were given once you reported in, those aren't counted against your leave, am I understanding right? Thanks for all the info. On a side note, how was COT physical and mental wise. Was the PT difficult and how much training did you do before you went? And how was the class aspect, anything particularly difficult?

Wow, I am suprised they are only giving you 3 days to get back to Texas after COT. I will give you an example, on my orders it said I had 17 days to report, however I had to read the small print on the back very carefully to notice that I actually only had 7 days to get there and it explained that another 10 could be used, but that would go against my leave. Keep in mind if you plan on using those, call your gaining base and let them know when you will be coming in, otherwise they are expecting you. They may be expecting you there within 3 days. I believe the days start the day after graduation, not the day of. When you sign in at your base and you get your 8 house hunting days or permissive TDY, that does not count against your leave! You do earn you 2.5 days of leave while at COT though, just so you know.

As for COT it is an interesting experience. The first day and week are the worst, and it gets slowly better as you go. By the last week it is not a big deal, but you will always be ready to get out of there. They will yell and scream at you from the very second you get there, don't worry about it, it's nothing personal and happens to everyone. Physically it is hard, PT is exausting and challenging in the mornings, but possible. You will do a full PFA (the sit ups, push ups, waist measurement, and 1.5 mile run) shortly after you get there, there is a 5K formation run, a 5K timed run, the actual PFB before you leave, and otherwise daily PT. It is very hot and humid in Alabama and you will be forced to drink more water than you think! The classes aren't bad, I am sure it differs by flight commander, but everyone did fine with the academics, and then other events you do are fun.

Let me know if you need more questions answered.
