Hello Everyone,
I am an educator who is in the process of developing a survey to determine learning needs of managers in a teaching hospital. I would appreciate if you can share with me some of the things you would like to know to be effective managers. Please list as many topics as you can.
Thank you.

Since a lot of nurses end up in management after being a "promoted" staff nurse, any management training would have been helpful. Here are a few to start off with: Budgets-how, what they look like, examples, mock budgeting; Interviewing skills-how to, examples, legalities, mock interviews, "reading" an application; Time Management; Performance Appraisals-how to, examples, mock, importance; Coaching skills; Discipline Skills; Delegation skills; Reward and recognitions skills; Scheduling; Being able to say "No" 101; Firing Skills-getting rid of poor performers; Communication with different personality types. There are too many to think of in one sitting. I'll start with these.
