I'm tired of working with nurses that don't care about the patients. Very discouraging to see how nurses 20 plus years of experience end up. Please help!!!

I know! And forgetting they are people! I was in a room with a combative Pt who we needed three people to change and reposition. My charge nurse was in helping, grabbed one of his hands and said something about how filthy he was and flung his hand back down on the bed. Just like he was some object i the room. No wonder he was combative! The rest of the night I would go in and talk calmly to him and explain everything before I did it and he was just fine.

I know the feeling. I work with a nurse that does nothing but sit on her butt. She works very hard to get out of working. She tries to delegate everything and even tries to get people to wait on her hand and foot, she won't even answer the phone or even add up the little bit of math for the end of day i+o totals, she just leaves it blank. It's so annoying. She doesn't do treatments like she's supposed to and she pretty much refuses to go give a PRN med, I guess it's too much work. She's even told people "I don't do prns" when someone needed cough syrup or Tylenol etc. It's awful that someone has to possibly suffer because some people are just too lazy to get off of their butts :-(

They don't have to have 20 years of experience to behave like that. It can be a nurse that only has a few years of experience too. If we look back in previous threads we can find a whole alphabet of people who don't really do their jobs. I wonder about some of the students in my own class who put forth the minimum effort to get by. I have to ask why are you here? The medical field is hard enough if you love it. I can't imagine what kind of depressing career this is if you don't like it.

I think all of us have worked with lazy nurses before.
But by specifically focusing on nurses with "20 plus years experience" it seems like you're just trying to stir the pot.

Ack! Stay out of long term care which is filled with people who became CNA's because it pays better than McDonalds. There are exceptions, exceptional CNAs and I'm thankful for every one of them. But for every dedicated, caring, awesome CNA there is one who is just punching a clock and doesn't give a %$#@ about the human beings they are charged to care for.
