Last minute study tips...

Published

I am coming down to literally the last few weeks of studying for my ANCC FNP boards and am scared beyond belief. I have done Fitzgerald's online review and have the review CDs from Barkley and Hollier as well as the most recent review books from Hollier and Leik. I have pretty much gone through all the material, and have tried to consolidate all my notes from all the review books, so I could look through them quickly. I am now in the process of working on practice questions. I know I need to spend some time concentrating on professional and nonclinical issues, which I have done and will continue to do. Any last minute study tips? Any info is greatly appreciated!

Hello. I passed the ANCC in October of this year. I did the Fitzgerald live course and the study book Adult-Gerontolgical and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination- 4th Ed. by Jill E. Winland-Brown. I also used the ANCC review book for Family NP.

I recommend the following:

-Understand types of research studies and which is most valid ( random-controlled, review studies, etc)

-Be able to identify skin conditions on sight (psoriasis, acne, ringworm, etc) and be able to tell which skin condition needs to be referred asap (know ABC's of identifying skin lesions). When it comes to acne be able to answer on sight which type of acne needs an antibiotic.

-Know what decreases the action of BP and cholesterol meds (HINT: garlic for anti-lipid meds :o)

-Know that diabetic patients should be on an ACE inhibitor unless contraindicated (review ADA diabetic guidelines)

-Speaking of guidelines, review guidelines for common conditions (GERD, diabetes, STD's, BP, etc)

-Understand the types of (clams vs occurrence)

That's all I can think of for now. Hope it helps. Good luck and study hard!!!
