I got my LPN through LCCTC. It IS a great school. Unlike some of the other schools in central PA, they are committed to turning out nurses. If you are having trouble, they will work with you. There is tutoring available by appointment. The instructors are strict, but respectful. They are not deliberately trying to weed students out. They want their students to succeed.
One of the things I loved about the school was that they made certain that all of their graduates know how to do an assessment. I went into my ADN program confident about my assessment skills. It helped me get through my RN program.
Good luck to you during the next year. It's an intense ride, but it's worth it.
Thanks a bunch for your input, its very encouraging!
Just a little hint to make your life easier:
Don't be that student who gets sent home from clinicals for wearing a nose ring and nail polish, leaving her long hair hanging in her face, and wearing a hot pink thong under her white uniform pants. You can have control of your appearance after you finish the program. For one year, be standard issue uniform. If you think something is stupid or not fair, don't let the instructors overhear you grumbling about it. You are not there just to learn facts about nursing. You are there to be molded into a nurse. This is not specific to LCCTC. I suspect it's true of every nursing school. But many of my fellow students learned it the hard way. If you just accept that the school has total control for the brief time you are there, you will save yourself a lot of grief.
Buy a bunch of flesh colored undergarments before the semester starts. You might think that the uniform is not see through, but it is if you're wearing dark or bright colors under it.
Okay. Great tips. I actually went through cna school, and medical assistant school already so i am prepared to sacrifice that stuff. Its funny, i have bright pink highlights since ive been a stay at home mom this last year, but I'll definitely being dying it a more traditional color befor school starts.
Also i was looking at the brochure, and for the learning structure it states that the first semster is really heavy in fundamentals and the rest of the classes are about 30 theory hours. How does that work. Do you not have certain classes on certain days considering semesters are bout 14 weeks.
