labor and delivery

Published

Hi,

Are there any CNAs out there that work in Labor and Delivery in a hospital? I am curious about what the job description is like and any other insight you can offer.

Thanks!

Hi there! I don't work as a CNA ... but I just passed my exam... woohoo!

Anyway, I DO volunteer in L & D and I can tell you what I've seen the CNA's do.

I actually work on the postpartum, nursery, special care nursery, and L & D units. I've seen the assts. float around (as the nurses do too ) to all areas as well.

Mostly I've seen them helping the patients with their baths, bathing the babies dressing them after they are born, shampooing their hair and combing it...

I've seen them do vitals on all patients, change linens and towels and stuff as well as getting their water or other related tasks like that.

I keep hoping a position opens up at the hospital I am at so I can work there rather than volunteer. But I can only do about 16 hrs every other week and those positions seem to be rare over there.

Have you applied for a job yet?? Or are ya just curious??

I hope this helps. I'm sure someone who actually is a CNA in L & D has more insight. Oh well...

Take care,

Jennifer
