I am currently a nursing student in an ASN program at a community college. This semester consists of mental health and OB/peds content, along with their corresponding clinical rotations.
Now that I have begun to experience the OB rotation, I feel strongly that this is where I'm meant to be in nursing - it makes me feel alive in a way that no other clinical experience ever has.
(Clarification: I am VERY aware of the fact that L&D jobs are HIGHLY competitive. I understand reality. I also understand it may take many years to finally land a job in L&D.)
My question is: what types of things can I do in order to strengthen my chances of getting a job in labor and delivery someday? Are there nursing areas similar to it that are easier to get a job in? Or would I be better off just shooting for a generic med surg floor, amassing a few years of experience, and then attempting to apply?
Thanks in advance!
